GALLERY: Farmers Market full of spring cheer opening day
The Greene County Farmers Market kicked off its 2021 season April 3. Open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Greene Commons pavilion in Stanardsville through October, the open-air market offers both in-person and online shopping with curbside pickup available for those who shop ahead each week.
More than 20 vendors make up the market, with many attending every week throughout the season. Fresh meat and eggs were available on opening day along with a variety of spring crafts and plants and home-baked breads and pastries; later in the season, vendors will have locally-grown fruits and vegetables to add to the lineup.
Landless Farmer
“Landless Farmer” Annie sells vegetable and herb seedlings, all of which she grows on her patio or in her small greenhouse in Orange County with the help of her daughter, Sophie, 5 (front). You can learn more on Instagram @ThatLandlessFarmer.
The Donut Kitchen

Triple L Farmhouse
Charlotte Powell (left) purchased a lovely arrangement of spring flowers from Lynn Gelfand (right) of Triple L. Farmhouse Creations. Gelfand offers colorful themed wreaths and décor based on the season.
Hawk Hollow Greenhouse
Susan Woodward of Hawk Hollow Greenhouse and Farm in Madison offers a variety of plants as well as baked goods and fresh chicken and duck eggs. Later in the season she will add more fruit and veggies to her offerings as well as local honey.
Seedlings
Hawk Hollow Greenhouse and Farm is a weekly staple at the Greene County Farmers Market, offering seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as plant starters, chicken and duck eggs, baked goods and local honey.
Polish Ladies
Formerly known as “The Polish Ladies,” this trio offers a variety of delights each week: Emma, left, makes handmade pasta and may offer marinara sauce in the future; Jennifer, center, makes the painted eggs and jewelry boxes (and her mom, who will often attend the market, offers delicious homemade pierogis); Cindy, right, makes elegant inked greeting cards. The group’s new name, Dusha—which in Polish means “for the soul”—refers to their outlook on their craft: “We’re not here to make a profit; we just do stuff that makes us happy,” Jennifer said.
Under the Pavilion
Judy Berger, market manager, said they had a great showing and a steady flow all morning and are looking forward to more vendors and patrons in the coming weeks as the weather gets warmer.
