The Marching Dragons performed a special halftime show to celebrate the recently-installed lights at the schools’ athletic field in September 2000. These uniforms were replaced by the new green and black ones in 2003. (As pictured in the Sept. 14, 2000 issue of the Record.)

From the May 25, 1972 issue of the Record: "On May 18 at 8 p.m. William Monroe High School of Greene County had its first, of what is hoped will be an annual event, a spring concert. The program consisted of the following selections: 'The School Song,' 'Two Famous Hymns,' 'Colorado Trails,' 'Merry Widow Waltz,' 'Village Charm,' and 'Sidewalks of New York.' The audience, relatively large, was responsive and enthusiastic. [...] The Band Boosters have placed an order for uniforms for the band."

Commencing their second year of operation, the parents overwhelmingly supported their officers. It is through the effort of these officers that the William Monroe band has been able to procure $4000 for uniforms. It is predicted that all the funds necessary for payment of the uniforms will be garnered by the end of this school year.” … “William Wade, principal of William Monroe High School, stated that he was quite happy with the progress of the band since its beginning two years ago.” … “The band put the new uniforms on for the first time this past Friday night for the opening of the new athletic field when William Monroe went against Madison.”

From the Nov. 12, 2015 issue of the Record: "Saturday, Nov. 7, the 13U Greene Dragons played the 13U Madison Mountaineers in support of Ethan "Big E" Paladino, a former player who was diagnosed with cancer this year. All proceeds went to the Paladino family to help support them during Ethan's treatment and to help cover travel and lodging during his treatment at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. [...] Ethan loves music and was excited to pose with The Marching Dragons."

On March 20, 2021, the Marching Dragons played in the stands at what would be the season's only home football game; the season was canceled early due to a case of COVID-19 on the team, but the band later put out a music video to celebrate their abbreviated season.

In researching the article, "50 Years of Marching Music," we came across many wonderful photos and articles outlining the early history of the WMHS Marching Dragons. As only a few could fit in the pages of our paper this week, we wanted to take the opportunity to share some of what we unearthed in our archives (and a few borrowed yearbooks) with you. Enjoy!
