CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) is inviting job seekers and community members to get an inside look at careers in public transportation during its Catch a Career Hiring Open House on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at CAT headquarters, located at 1545 Avon Street Ext., Charlottesville, VA 22902.
The event will give attendees the opportunity to explore career paths in transit operations, pupil transportation, the CAT Shop, and other critical support areas. Visitors will be able to meet CAT employees, tour buses and the facility, learn about training and benefits, ask questions, and apply on-site for open positions.
CAT will also provide some light refreshments during the event for attendees to enjoy while they meet the team and learn more about available career opportunities.
"CAT keeps Charlottesville moving every day, and our employees are the reason that work is possible," said Garland Williams, director of Charlottesville Area Transit. "This open house gives potential employees a chance to see the workplace, meet the team, ask questions, and learn how a career at CAT can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve."
The open house is designed to be more than a traditional hiring event. Attendees will get a firsthand look at CAT’s day-to-day operations and the people behind the service, from operators and pupil transportation staff to mechanics and support teams.
CAT offers paid CDL training, excellent city benefits, retirement and paid time off, and opportunities for career growth. Available opportunities may include transit bus operators, school bus drivers and aides, mechanics, utility workers, supervisors, and other roles that help keep CAT’s buses, facilities, and daily service running.
Parking will be available on-site at CAT’s headquarters. Visitors may also park downtown and ride Route 2 directly to CAT from the Downtown Station on the Downtown Mall.
Community members are encouraged to stop by anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to learn more, meet the team, enjoy the refreshments, get some cool CAT swag, and take the next step toward a career with purpose.
