Charlottesville partners with LEAP to help local homeowners go solar
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville is pleased to partner with the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) on the 12th annual Solarize campaign to help local homeowners install rooftop solar systems. As incentives, technologies, and market conditions shift, Solarize Virginia provides clear, unbiased guidance to help residents make informed decisions about going solar.
Since 2014, Solarize Virginia has helped thousands of homeowners across the Commonwealth install solar energy through a streamlined process that combines education, vetted installers, and discounted pricing. With rising energy costs and changing policy landscapes, more households are exploring solar as a way they can gain greater control over their energy bills. This year, amid federal policy changes, the program will focus on expanded financing options to continue achieving the long-term financial and environmental benefits of solar.

"Homeowners are hearing a lot about solar right now, from changing federal incentives to evolving utility policies," says Deborah Arenstein, Solar Program Manager at LEAP. "Our goal is to provide clear, trustworthy information so residents can understand what makes sense for their homes."
Charlottesville Office of Sustainability staff understand our community members may need support in navigating the process of installing solar. "With utility costs rising, many folks are thinking about solar as a way to protect themselves from increasing energy prices. But incentives are also changing, so it can feel confusing," says Charlottesville Climate Program Manager Emily Irvine. "With Solarize, our community members can be sure to get clear information so they can make the best decision for their households."
LEAP will host a series of informational webinars, community events, and offer one-on-one consultations to help participants understand whether solar is a good fit for their home and understand costs, financing, and utility policies.
Participants who move forward with installation through Solarize Virginia will benefit from pre-negotiated pricing from vetted solar installers, making the process simpler and more cost-effective than navigating the market on their own.
