Austin Fisher Pacher Sr., 94, of Harrisonburg, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.Austin was born on March 26, 1922, in Brooklyn N.Y., the son of the late Frank A. and Maud Clair Sillman Pacher.On September 1, 1945, he married Betty Chilson Pacher who preceded him in death on September 14, 1992. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank A Pacher, Jr.; a sister, Maud Clair Ammenwerth.Austin and Betty moved to the Valley in April 1989, from Stone Mountain, Ga. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church on Court Square, Harrisonburg. He was employed for 21 years at Pan American Airways, before going to work for the Federal Aviation Administration for 24 years. He was a member of the Spotswood Country Club, ISASE (International Society of Air Safety Investigators), a member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM, and a Shriner. Austin loved aviation, enjoyed golf, volunteering at Sentara RMH, traveling and being with family.He is survived by his son, Austin F. Pacher Jr. and wife, Michele, of Osprey, Fla.; daughters, Priscilla Jane Kemp and husband, Joseph, of Waynesboro, and Karen Elizabeth Ewers and husband, George, of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren, Gregory Ewers and wife, Megan, Kathy Mahallati and husband, Sayl, Carolyn Ewers Lewis and husband, Craig, Austin F. Pacher III and wife, Margaret, and Victoria Haynes and husband, Kyle; and one great-grandchild, Carly Mahallati.A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
