A play being presented at Piedmont Virginia Community College this weekend, June 23-24, will focus on one family’s experiences to examine the pain, resilience and resolve of Virginians evicted from their Blue Ridge Mountain homes in the 1930s to enable the creation of Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive.
“Can’t Feel at Home” will be presented Friday and Saturday at Piedmont Virginia Community College. Producers say the playwright’s wish was to see the play presented in each of eight counties affected by the displacement of families to create Shenandoah National Park.
Charlottesville Mayor Floyd Snook participates in a rehearsal of “Can’t Feel at Home.” He portrays Virginia Gov. George Peery, who served at the time families were displaced from their homes in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
