City provides update on Rivanna riverfront transition
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville’s coordinated transition from the Rivanna riverfront encampment is continuing today.
As of midday, 13 people have transitioned from the encampment to the temporary emergency shelter at 2000 Holiday Drive. All individuals have now left the 0 East High Street side of the encampment, and cleanup of that area has begun.
City staff and community partners continue working directly with individuals remaining near Free Bridge to assist those who are willing to transition to Holiday Drive or connect with other available options and resources.
The City thanks the community for giving residents, staff, and community partners the space needed to support today’s transition. The Rivanna Trail remains temporarily closed in the affected area, and the public is asked to continue avoiding the area. The City will advise once the trail has reopened.
