Charlottesville Downtown Mall tree work on October 5
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville Parks & Recreation Department will be performing important tree work along the 200 block of the Downtown Mall (near Sal's Caffe) on Monday, October 5.
A routine tree inspection revealed the activity of a damaging type of bark beetle in the tree. Mitigation strategies, including tree removal, will be utilized to reduce infestation risk to other downtown trees. The work will consist of one tree removal and additional pruning of nearby trees. The timeframe for tree work is expected to last one day (October 5) from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Tree work will closely resemble operations performed in January 2024 and January 2025. Foot traffic may be slowed in certain areas, and pedestrians are encouraged to remain alert and use caution when approaching work zones. Restaurant operators are responsible for moving cafe space enclosures, furniture, and other belongings offsite or out of the way to ensure crews have clear access to the trees.
