A parent’s top priority is having trusted, high-quality care for their children. By opening two new clinics at UVA Health Medical Park Riverside, UVA Health Children’s has brought families in central Virginia more convenient access to top pediatric healthcare experts from the number one children’s hospital in Virginia as ranked by U.S. News & World Report for 5 years in a row.
With the opening of the Pediatric and Specialty Care Riverside and Teen and Young Adult Care Riverside clinics, UVA Health Children’s has created a hub for pediatric healthcare at Medical Park Riverside. As part of UVA Health’s growing network of clinics and hospitals across Virginia, these new clinics offer primary and same-day care for patients up to age 25. They also join UVA Health Children’s Pediatric Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health clinic, which opened at the same location in December 2024, in offering care for pediatric patients with more specialized and complex needs, along with mental and emotional support.
Fulfilling a commitment to families
The clinic openings are part of a broader effort to meet increasing demand and provide more convenient care options for families in the communities served by UVA Health. Jason Lineen, MBA, UVA Health’s chief strategy officer and interim chief of UVA Health Children’s & Women’s Services, says, “Parents told us they wanted trusted pediatric care that was easier to reach, closer to where they live and designed around their real lives — these locations represent our efforts to meet those needs.”
The new locations offer a wide range of services for newborns and kids through young adults, including same-day pediatric care for minor illnesses and injuries. On-site testing helps families avoid unnecessary emergency department visits (although emergency care, if needed, can be found at each of UVA Health’s four hospitals in Charlottesville, Culpeper, Haymarket and Prince William). Parents can bring their children in for common needs including newborn care, routine checkups, immunizations, labs, sports and school physicals, and hearing and vision screenings. After-hours care is also available for established patients.
Connecting to advanced care
If needed, patients can be connected to the kinds of specialized care, state-of-the-art technology and leading-edge treatments found through an academic medical center and Virginia’s number one children’s hospital, including genetics testing and counseling, robotic surgery, AI-assisted imaging and diagnostics, and other advanced medical technologies. Patients can also access clinical trials, bringing promising new therapies for serious diseases.
Madhusmita Misra, M.D., MPH, chair of the UVA Department of Pediatrics and physician-in-chief of UVA Health Children’s, similarly highlighted UVA Health’s aim of connecting patients in the communities they serve with nationally ranked medical care.
“The Riverside location will provide expanded access to top nationally ranked pediatric specialties while also improving access to coordinated primary care for children, teens and families across our region. This will serve as an important new destination for same-day care for patients who may not otherwise be able to access timely services, while avoiding unnecessary visits to the emergency room,” Misra said.
