CHARLOTTESVILLE — A statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee was hoisted away from its place of prominence in Charlottesville on Saturday and carted off to storage, years after its threatened removal became a rallying point for white supremacists and inspired their violent 2017 rally that left a woman dead and dozens injured.

In the June 29 Daily Progress, there was a story discussing the removal of school resource officers in Albemarle County. One School Board member stated: “To me, 15% of our students having a problem is far more important...than 85% not.”

There is a disturbing yet ongoing phenomenon at work in Charlottesville that is contributing to a disappearing landscape. This force is transforming and reshaping the once familiar landscape of my erstwhile hometown to conform with its devolving social/political climate.
