Stanardsville again hosted the Red, White, Blue 'n Greene July 4th festivities. The committee will hold a meeting on Aug. 8 at the Stanardsville Town Hall at 7 p.m. for those wishing to help put together this volunteer effort for the community next year. 

Now that the back-to-school section is on full display at area stores, it seems such a long time ago that we celebrated Independence Day in Greene County (although it seems plenty of people still have firecrackers and bottle rockets at their disposal). Still, we have to give kudos to the Stanardsville Independence Day Committee and the many volunteers, bands and sponsors who put on a heckuva Red, White, Blue ’n Greene show on an extremely hot day and humid evening on July Fourth in Stanardsville.

While we’re on the subject of politics, let’s not overlook the irony of Ralph Northam’s reliance on corporate funding for his inauguration festivities. Mr. Northam ran on a platform of campaign finance reform.
