As reported in The Daily Progress, the University of Virginia Health System received this year’s Dabney Award for Corporate Leadership from the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce (“UVa Health System honored by Chamber of Commerce,” Feb. 17 online).
As the CEO of Hospice of the Piedmont, I couldn’t agree more with the Chamber’s decision. End-of-life care in this community will never be the same because of the UVa Health System.
Last month, Hospice of the Piedmont opened a state-of-the-art short-stay inpatient hospice unit for patients with complex and advanced symptoms. We could never have opened the Center for Acute Hospice Care were it not for the assistance and collaboration of the UVa Health System. It is virtually unheard of for a town of our size to have such a cutting-edge facility. Kudos to the Chamber for picking a very worthy recipient. And special gratitude from all of the patients, families and staff at Hospice of the Piedmont to our dear partner, the UVa Health System.
