The Madison American Legion Post 157 held a ceremony Monday on the War Memorial Lawn in honor of Memorial Day. Though not the legion’s traditional large ceremony due to COVID-19, commander Mike Fisher encouraged those watching via Facebook Live to “never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the defense of freedom.” Standing next to the War Memorial, he said, “freedom and liberty are what these 50 Madison citizen names represent they died in the defense of this great nation. We honor those who defended this country. This state and this beloved, beautiful Madison County, may we never forget them and their families. Always cherish them.”
