Two months ago, the thought of an ACC football power poll seemed hopeful at best. A month ago, the possibility of fall football remained iffy.
With the calendar flipped to September, however, we’ve seen live college football games. Thursday even represents the start of the ACC football season, with Miami hosting UAB at 8 p.m.
ACC football is back.
Sorry, Comcast users, but the game airs on ACC Network.
Cautious optimism about a fall football season defined much of the summer, and while teams like Virginia lost nonconference games, the 2020 fall season inches closer. Ahead of the fall slate, let’s sort through the first ACC Power Poll of the season.
Before we begin, it’s important to note two things.
First, this initial ranking doesn’t match my predicted ACC order of finish that I submitted to the conference in a media poll. I’m weighing last season’s results more heavily in this poll to give credit to the teams that posted solid 2019 seasons. For example, I don’t see UVa finishing fourth in the ACC this season, but the Cavaliers will remain high in the poll until 2020 on-field results prove otherwise.
Second, if you’re upset at where I ranked your favorite team, send me an angry email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I enjoy a good reader complaint.
