At Greene Hills Golf and Swim Club, it’s all about the families. And affordable fun.
Debbie Brown, Greene Hills social committee chair and unofficial chief of fun, makes sure the club’s social calendar is booked solid. The outdoor athletic activities and amenities available to club members are endless: tennis courts, a 25-meter pool, wading pool, fully stocked pro shop, driving range, practice putting green, short game practice area, full-service grill and, of course, a 200-acre golf course. Memorial Day and July 4th parties are planned, along with social nights, holiday events, tournaments, swim lessons, adult and youth pool games, happy hours, barbecues, swimming, golf and more. All year round.
Greene Hills Golf and Swim Club is more than a place for golf.
“Of course, we have a premier course for golfers,” Brown said, “but we are also very devoted to focusing on activities that are not just golf-centered but family-centered. We really use our membership and social committee members to plan events throughout the year that touch on both golfers and non-golfers. It’s just a very fun and welcoming place for everyone.”
Located in Stanardsville in Central Virginia, just 25 minutes from Charlottesville, the par 71 golf course has been providing golfers some excellent and challenging play against a gorgeous backdrop that features rolling pastures, the Blue Ridge Mountains, a river and five ponds. A forest that runs along the river’s edge adds a vibrant touch of brightly colored leaves during the fall foliage season.
“I have to say though, the most fun part of this job is the social part and just hanging out with the families,” said Pam Dillon, president of Greene Hills. “There’s no pressure here. This is a club where you can just sit back and relax and not have a care in the world. The common theme of the feedback we receive from our members is that, yes, the golf course is great, but it’s more about the people and the culture here that attracts them to the club the most.”
Dillon said affordability plays into the attraction of the club as well. An array of membership options are available and range from seasonal social to full memberships for both individuals and families. Seasonal memberships provide full access to the pool and tennis courts and two rounds of golf each month.
“We have a multitude of membership options that cater to any family’s needs,” Dillon said. “And from a family perspective, you’re not going to find anything similar elsewhere that will offer what we offer for the total cost.”
Greene Hills offers individual rounds and weekly golf leagues for men, women, kids and couples, and plays host to outings (private, social, corporate) and tournaments. The well-stocked Pro Shop also provides golfers with an extensive selection of logoed gear.
The Hill Grill, located near the swimming pool, offers foodies — and golfers finishing the 18th hole — multiple options for all-day snacking and dining. Guests can enjoy a full sit-down lunch or dinner, or just grab a snack. The restaurant even provides weekly themed To-Go dinners that families can order and take with them.
