The Waynesboro Generals scored early and often Sunday night, beating Harrisonburg 11-2 in game one of the playoff series.
An error by Harrisonburg starter Connor Kaden helped Kevin Fagan advance to third base in the third inning. He scored on the next play, as Tyler Bocock hit into a fielder’s choice. Harrisonburg answered in the next inning, taking what would be their only lead of the game off a double by Taylor Nichols and a single by Joe Napolitano.
Generals starter David Spinosa lasted three innings, giving up no runs off 2 hits and walking 3. Spinosa was replaced by Kyle Allen, who went 4 innings and gave up 2 runs off 2 hits, striking out 2. Allen picked up the win on the night.
Waynesboro scored at least one run in each of the next five innings. Bocock singled in a run in the 5th, Corbin Lucas added another with a single in the 6th and Turks reliever Austin Stephens walked in a run in the 7th inning. Coming up as the leadoff hitter in the 8th inning, Ben Boykin added another with a solo home run.
The offense then exploded again in the 9th inning. The first two runs came thanks to a home run by Quinn Griffith. Three straight walks by Harrisonburg relievers brought in three more runs.
Sean Bucholtz came in to pick the 9th inning, shutting down the Turks. All but three of the Generals picked up hits on the night. Corbin Lucas went 2 for 3, while Bocock had 3 RBIs.
